Former SA Area Councilman Convicted of Raping Teen

SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ A former suburban San Antonio city councilman could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to having sex with a drunken 14-year-old girl.

Former Helotes councilman Jeffrey Ellis pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree sexual assault instead of going to trial as scheduled this week.

Prosecutors say his plea deal calls for up to 10 years in prison, a $1,500 fine and registration as a sex offender when Ellis is sentenced next month.

Ellis had been running unopposed for a second term on the council when the girl’s father reported his daughter’s outcry to Helotes police. The girl said she was with other young people at a pool party at the Ellis family home in April 2009 when Ellis took advantage of her intoxication.

Ellis was arrested and resigned from the council days later.
