Former Milam County Probation Officer Now On Probation

CAMERON, Texas (AP) _ A former probation officer in Central Texas must serve three years of probation and pay more than $10,000 for pocketing money meant for restitution.

Ronald G. Floyd pleaded guilty Monday in Cameron to theft by a public servant. The 50-year-old Floyd was an assistant probation officer in Milam (MY’-luhm) County before resigning last month amid the investigation.

Authorities say Floyd, for several years, accepted cash from some probationers but did not record the money as credit toward their community service sentences.

Texas law lets probationers, who meet certain qualifications, make donations to a food bank in lieu of completing some community service hours.

Investigators are still trying to determine how much money Floyd stole. He’s been ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and make restitution of more than $8,000.
