Former McLennan County JP Admits to Taking Dead Man’s Social Security Benefits

WACO, Texas (AP) _ A former Central Texas judge already on probation in a records and mileage reimbursement scam faces prison for stealing a dead man’s Social Security benefits.

Ex-McLennan County Justice of the Peace Jean Laster Boone pleaded guilty Thursday to theft of government property.

Boone, who’s free on bond, faces up to 10 years in prison when she’s sentenced later this year in federal court in Waco.

Robert Martin Davis died in May 2010. Prosecutors say Boone had access to the man’s bank account as the Social Security Administration continued to deposit his benefits, totaling about $63,000 through last October. Boone acknowledged stealing more than $16,000, which she repaid in March.

Boone last December was put on three years of probation after pleading guilty to two felony counts of record tampering.
