Former FBI Director to Investigate Fort Hood

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Former FBI director William Webster will be looking at what the FBI knew ahead of time about the Fort Hood shooting suspect.

FBI Director Robert Mueller has asked Webster to look at how the bureau handled information about Maj. Nidal Hassan in the months before the shooting that claimed 13 lives.

Mueller had already ordered an internal review. The new assignment for Webster takes it a step further. Webster is a former judge who also served as CIA director.

The U.S. military is also reviewing its handling of information about Hassan before the shooting rampage.

In the FBI’s case, members of two anti-terrorism task forces saw e-mails between the Army psychiatrist and a radical imam overseas beginning in December 2008.
