Former Bryan City Manager Comments on Council’s BTU Vote

September marks two years that Bryan City Manager David Watkins resigned under pressure. That was in part after Watkins called for more authority with BTU.

Watkins says he is extremely pleased with last week’s city council decision to return responsibility for BTU with the city manager, calling it “a real win-win for the community and the city.”

Watkins was asked if he was disappointed that the council voted to return BTU oversight to the manager happened after he left. He says it wasn’t just his idea to look at what he called “eliminating redundacy”.  He said there was a lot of discussion with the council. He noted “it was a rough period because change is something that scares people, even if it’s change is for the better.”

Watkins, who with his wife Kay had been in The Woodlands selling real estate, has been hired as the city manager in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

WTAW’s Bill Oliver visits with David Watkins.
