Former Aggie Men’s Tennis’ Withrow Into Quarters at U.S. Open

QUEENS, N.Y. – Texas A&M men’s tennis pro Jackson Withrow and partner Nathaniel Lammons took down the decorated duo of Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury which won the last three US Open men’s doubles titles Monday in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals at the 2024 US Open.

Withrow and Lammons were the No. 13 seed at the Open and Withrow boasts the No. 26 doubles ranking in the world. The Aggie and his partner defeated Ram and Salisbury, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, and will take on the No. 11 seed pairing of Nikola Mektic and Wesley Koolhof in the quarters with date and time to be determined.

Ram and Salisbury were the three seed and had won the previous three US Opens. Ram is also fresh off the 2024 Paris Olympics where he helped Texas A&M Hall of Famer Austin Krajicek to a silver medal in men’s doubles.

Incoming freshman Theo Papamalamis was also victorious on Monday, winning his first-round matchup versus Benjamin Willwerth, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, in the US Open Junior Boys’ Singles draw. Papamalamis will face off with Hoyoung Roh in the second round and his boys’ double journey at the Open is set to begin Tuesday at 10 a.m.
