Former Aggie Men’s Tennis Players in U.S. Open Qualifying

NEW YORK – Former Texas A&M tennis standouts Patrick Kypson and Valentin Vacherot begin their quest for a spot in the 2024 U.S. Open in the tournament’s qualifying draw on Tuesday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Kypson (ATP #168), representing the United States, faces off against Elias Ymer (ATP #225) of Sweden, while the No. 13-seeded Vacherot (ATP #113), representing Monaco, takes on Kaylan Bigun (ATP #990) of the U.S. Both matches are slated to start at 10 a.m. with ESPN2 or ESPN+ televising the action from the early session of the qualifying draw.

In his lone season in Aggieland, Kypson earned ITA National Rookie of the Year honors as he helped the Aggies to the 2018 SEC regular season title and a spot in the NCAA semifinals. Kypson, from Raleigh, North Carolina, posted a 17-10 singles record, including a 16-9 record at No. 1 singles in dual match play. During the year, Kypson posted 14 singles wins over ranked opponents.

Vacherot, from Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, won ITA National Senior Player of the Year honors in 2021. He finished his four-year career with an 86-21 record in dual matches, setting the program record for dual singles wins from 2017-21. Over his time in Aggieland he recorded an astonishing 43-6 all-time mark in SEC matches including a program-record 19-match conference win streak.
