Prison is the next stop for a former Texas A&M University football player who recently signed a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.
23 year old Brandon Joiner was ordered to start serving a three year sentence for his part in an aggravated robbery with a marijuana dealer.
Joiner, who recently graduated from Arkansas State, was a freshman at A&M and Yemi Babalola was a senior when they robbed and assaulted two people at the Callaway Villas apartments in College Station in November 2007.
Joiner is also on probation from a ten year prison term involving a second victim. Babalola was released on parole last December.
Prosecutor Brian Price says the timing, which follows a plea agreement reached in January, was about Joiner graduating and had nothing to do with football.
A representative of the Bengals was in the courtroom for Wednesday’s sentencing.
