COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies registered a region-best five players on the Midwest-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team released by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Wednesday.
Senior shortstop Blake Allemand and sophomore outfielder Nick Banks were named Midwest All-Region First Team and junior outfielder Logan Taylor, senior designated hitter Mitchell Nau and junior starting pitcher Grayson Long were tabbed Midwest All-Region Second Team.
As one of just two SEC schools, along with Missouri, in the Midwest Region, Texas A&M players were hamstrung with most of the voting contingent coming from the Big 12 (eight coaches) and the Missouri Valley Conference (eight coaches).
Allemand was only Aggie to play in all 64 games, starting all of them. He paced A&M with 60 runs. The Boerne, Texas native hit .339 with 14 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 40 RBI.
With 231 games played, Allemand finished fourth on the Aggies’ career list. He finished his career with a .295 batting average, 148 hits, 29 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs, 105 RBI and 32 stolen bases. He ranks fourth on A&M’s career list for walks (123) and 10th for hits (241).
Banks started 63 games for the Aggies as a sophomore, batting .364 with 51 runs, 87 hits, 11 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 48 RBI and nine stolen bases.
During his two years in College Station, Banks is hitting .347 with 80 runs, 21 doubles, five triples, 10 home runs, 74 RBI and 16 stolen bases.
Taylor was named All-SEC Second Team and garnered All-America Third Team distinction from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). He led the Aggies with 10 home runs and 52 RBI. He batted .333 with 34 runs, 13 doubles and one triple.
For his career, Taylor is hitting .293 with 63 runs, 32 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 77 RBI in 128 games.
Nau, an All-SEC First Team selection as a designated hitter, led the Aggies with a .370 batting average, 88 hits and 17 doubles. He logged 46 runs, four home runs and 47 RBI.
In his four years, Nau batted .298 with 69 runs, 151 hits, 28 doubles, seven home runs and 97 RBI.
Long, an All-SEC Second Team selection, already picked up All-America Third Team recognition from both Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers. The northpaw finished the season with a 9-1 record, 2.82 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 95.2 innings of work. He held opponents to a .235 batting average. In 10 conference starts, Long went 6-0 with a 2.67 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 57.1 innings of work. He earned SEC Pitcher of the Week recognition twice in 2015.
For his career, Long is 19.5 with a 3.08 ERA and 199 strikeouts in 231.0 innings of work. His 19 victories is tied for 15th on the Aggies’ all-time wins list.
As First Team selections, Allemand and Banks are eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors to be released on June 13.
