COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The SEC Champion Texas A&M men’s tennis team placed a league-best five players on the All-SEC Team, announced Thursday by the league office.
Senior Arthur Rinderknech and freshman Patrick Kypson were named to the All-SEC first team, with Rinderknech garnering a third-straight All-SEC first-team nod. Valentin Vacherot, Jordi Arconada and Juan Carlos Aguilar were named to the second team, while Aguilar and Kypson were also named to the six-person All-Freshman team.
The Maroon & White swept through the SEC regular season undefeated, completing the team’s first unblemished conference season since 2001, finishing 22-5 overall and 12-0 in SEC play. The quintet helped the Aggies earn their third SEC Regular Season Championship in the last four seasons.
Rinderknech, the Aggies’ first ever three-time singles All-American, is the No. 12 ranked singles player and went 19-4 in dual matches including an astonishing 12-3 mark against ranked foes. The back-to-back-to-back All-American earned a trio of SEC Player of the Week honors this spring and was the only player in the league to earn the nod on more than once.
Kypson was named to both the All-SEC first team and the All-Freshman team after earning the No. 5 overall seed in the upcoming NCAA Singles tournament to garner All-American honors. The Raleigh, N.C. native, was named SEC Freshman of the Week twice this season after going 15-7 in dual matches and 8-3 against SEC foes. The right-hander earned a league-best 13 wins against ranked foes in his first collegiate season.
Arconada, a member of the All-SEC second team for the second straight season, went 11-1 in SEC matches this season and 21-1 over the past two years against the league. Arconada has gone undefeated against members of the All-SEC first and second team over the last two seasons, going 3-0 last season and 4-0 this year. In addition to his exploits in singles action, Arconada was named the No. 3 overall seed in the upcoming Doubles Championship, earning him All-American honors for the first time in his collegiate career.
Vacherot earned All-SEC second team honors for the second straight year. The Frenchman, earned 17 dual match victories this season to go 26-11 overall. The right-hander went an impressive 9-3 in SEC matches and was named to the SEC All-Tournament team last weekend in Tuscaloosa, Ala., after going 3-0 in singles matches, with all three wins coming against ranked foes, and 2-0 in doubles action.
Aguilar was named to the All-SEC Second Team and All-Freshman Team. The energetic right-hander earned the No. 3 national seed in the upcoming doubles tournament to confirm All-America honors. Alongside Arconada, Aguilar went 17-7 this year including a 10-4 mark against ranked duos, including a pair of wins over top-10 doubles tandems. In singles action, Aguilar went 27-7 overall and 20-4 in dual matches. The La Paz, Bolivia native was 9-2 in SEC singles play and a perfect 3-0 against ranked foes.
