COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M incoming freshman Kaci Fisher finished in top 10 in two categories at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA) World Show in early August.
Fisher placed eighth in western riding with a score of 223.5 in the finals and 10th in trail riding with a finals mark of 227. The Abilene native and her horse, Sue Zee Zip, also competed in western horsemanship, just missing the final round with a top-20 placement.
“I was very happy with how my World Show went,” Fisher said. “I had nothing but good rides on my horse. I had the best western riding run that I’ve ever had before in the finals which was a really great way to end my youth career.
“I also made the trail finals with a score of a 225. We had a really good prelims run and I was really happy with how “Suzie” handled everything. There were 22 that made it back to the finals, and the course was very challenging. It took around 5 minutes a horse to complete the pattern which is considered a lengthy pattern. I was extremely pleased with how my horse performed in the trail prelims and finals.
“In western horsemanship I made the top 20, but I didn’t make it in the top 15 which are invited back to the finals. My horse has only been doing horsemanship for a year and a half so to be in the top 20 at the world was a huge blessing. Our prelims run was pretty good and we got called back to the top 30, then we had to perform the pattern again and my second pattern was better than my first. We got called back for rail work but just missed the top 15. My horse tried as hard as she could for me so I couldn’t ask for anything more. Leaving Youth World with two Top Ten jackets and the best horse a girl could ask for made me realize how blessed I am and how excited I am for the future.”
Fisher joins the Texas A&M equestrian team for the first time this fall and will compete on the Aggies’ horsemanship squad.
The Aggies’ annual Maroon & White Scrimmage on Sept. 20 will showcase the team before it heads to Kansas State on Oct. 5 for the first meet of the 2013-14 season. To learn more about Texas A&M equestrian, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
