HOUSTON (AP) _ A fire has been put out at a southeast Houston environmental waste company that had been raided by federal officials earlier in the day.
Fire Assistant Chief Tommy Dowdy said he did not know the contents of the 10,000-gallon container that burned Tuesday in the back of a truck at the Houston facility of CES Environmental Inc.
Fire officials around 6 p.m. lifted a “shelter in place” order for nearby residents to remain in their homes because of a chemical leak.
Details about the cause of the fire were not available and no injuries have been reported.
Houston police and federal agents Tuesday morning raided the company’s Houston and Port Arthur offices in the wake of a string of accidents and mounting pressure from residents over public safety concerns.
Officials are monitoring the air quality at the plant and nearby neighborhood.
