Figure Skater Scott Hamilton Speaks at Surviving & Thriving Luncheon

Pink Alliance, the breast cancer support organization in the Brazos Valley, hosted the 17th annual Surviving & Thriving luncheon on Thursday.

Over the past 16 years, the annual luncheon has raised more than $866,000 to support local breast health initiatives, further cancer awareness, and serve breast cancer patients.

But Thursday’s guest speaker is not a breast cancer survivor. Scott Hamilton is the world’s most recognized male figure skater. He is also a testicular cancer and pituitary brain tumor survivor.

“I’ve been knocked down a bunch, and it’s how you get up. It’s gotten to this pattern where for every really tough thing that I’ve had to go through, there’s something really great on the other side, if I choose for that to happen,” says Hamilton.

Hamilton says prevention is the best way to survive.

“It’s all the things you need to take into consideration of where the risk factors are and then try to get in front of them,” said Hamilton.
