Fiancee: Texas Man Jilted by Indiana Business

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) _ The fiancee of a Texas man who died of gunshot wounds after holding hostages at a northwestern Indiana realty office says he had been reeling from a financial betrayal by a man who worked in that office.

Roy L. Ferguson died Friday from gunshot wounds he suffered at the end of a nearly seven-hour standoff at Prudential Executive Group Real Estate office in Valparaiso, about 40 miles southeast of Chicago.

Ferguson’s fiancee, Dawn Brim, tells The Times of Munster she doesn’t understand what triggered Friday’s standoff, but she’s certain the 48-year-old from Fulshear, Texas was upset about money a man who worked at the Prudential office owed him.

Police said the Prudential employee Ferguson believed owed him money wasn’t in the building when the standoff began.
