SAN LEON, Texas (AP) _ FEMA’s new regional administrator has halted all evictions from federally owned trailers amid complaints from residents displaced by Hurricane Ike.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Tony Russell also says his office is reviewing allegations of employees mistreating residents.
The Houston Chronicle reports several people say they were told to vacate the trailers despite not having anywhere else to go. Others say they were given less than the required 30-day notice for an eviction or were constantly pressured to leave by FEMA employees. Another complaint alleges FEMA employees threatened a family with removing the trailer where they live.
