Fatality Crash On Highway 6 Between Bryan and Hearne

Wednesday afternoon update:

A four vehicle crash on Highway 6 early Wednesday morning killed a Franklin man.

According to DPS, 23 year old Austin Wittig was driving a car that rear-ended a semi-trailer. Then the car was rear-ended by a pickup. The impact pushed the car into oncoming traffic and was hit by a motorcycle.

DPS reports two other drivers were taken to the hospital. Their identities and their conditions are not known.

The driver of the semi and his passenger were not transported.

The mishap, on Highway 6 at the railroad overpass north of the OSR exit, blocked traffic from around 5:15 a.m. to shortly before 1 p.m.

Bryan- Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a multi-collision vehicle fatality crash this morning on US-190 north of OSR in Robertson County.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates, at approximately 5:15 a.m., a 1993 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer was travelling south on US-190 in the outside lane . A 2009 Pontiac passenger vehicle reportedly struck the rear of the trailer; disabling the Pontiac in the traffic lane. A 2008 Ford Ranger pick-up also traveling south on US 190 struck the Pontiac. The collision forced it into the northbound lanes of US 190. The Pontiac was then struck a second time by a motorcycle traveling North on US 190.

Three drivers , excluding the truck driver and his passenger, were transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. One driver has been pronounced deceased and the other two remain at St. Joseph Hospital with undetermined injuries.

US-190 remains shut down at this time, while DPS continues to investigate the crash scene. No additional information available at this time.
