News release from the city of Bryan:
Former Aggie and NFL running back, Bubba Bean, joined the City of Bryan staff on August 3. Bean will be serving as the Neighborhood and Youth Outreach Coordinator.
Bean was recruited to Texas A&M University in 1971. As a four-year starter, he rushed for a Texas A&M record of 2,846 career yards. In his senior year, Bean was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Bean was a first-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1976 NFL draft and played for six seasons, 1976-1982.
Bean retired from the NFL in 1982 and moved back to College Station where he worked in the Texas A&M University Planning and Placement Office. Twelve years later he opened his own construction company, Bean Construction. Bean’s company served as the general contractor for the construction of the African-American Heritage Museum in downtown Bryan.
“I look forward to serving the neighborhoods and youth of the community and am grateful for this opportunity with the City of Bryan,” Bean said.
As the Neighborhood and Youth Outreach Coordinator, Bean will perform a variety of administrative duties associated with coordinating city services to established neighborhoods. He will serve as a liaison between the City of Bryan, community leaders, nonprofit groups, and homeowner and neighborhood associations. Bean will also develop, coordinate and implement programs aimed to support at-risk youth in the community.
