Executed Child Killer Believed To Have Murdered A Local Realtor In 1981

A Bryan man executed for the 1987 kidnapping and murder of a nine year old girl is believed to have killed a local realtor in 1981.

Brazos County sheriff Chris Kirk says DNA under the fingernails of Virgina Freeman was traced to a family member of James Otto Earhart.

The sheriff says Earhart’s body will be exhumed to get a DNA sample.

The sheriff’s interest in this case goes back to when it happened, because he took photos of what was his first major crime scene.

Kirk told reporters his one regret “is that we weren’t able to put handcuffs on the suspect and prosecute him for the vicious killing of Virginia Freeman.”

The children of Virginia Freeman issued a statement that they are grateful to everyone involved in solving their mother’s murder, and the children hope this brings some closure to all who were affected by this crime.

And the sheriff says Bryan police has some unsolved murders that they have an interest in the DNA evidence they have discovered.
