A routine inspection caught a major natural gas leak Thursday morning on the Texas A&M campus.
There were a variety of evacuations and closures for two and hours until the leak was isolated and the all-clear was given at 2:35 p.m.
University police (UPD) reported Atmos Energy employees discovered the leak at the Central Utility Plant at 11:30 a.m.
The first Code Maroon alert was issued at noon, and over the next 75 minutes there were evacuations at the plant, Sbisa dining hall, and three dormitories.
Residents at Hobby, Neely, and Hotard, were directed to camp out at Reed Arena. Transportation Services was running a shuttle from Fish Pond-picking up on the Jones Street side of Fish Pond-to Reed to assist with the evacuation.
The Northside parking garage was closed, along with portions of Ross, Houston, Hogg, Asbury, New, and Ireland Streets.
Texas A&M Transportation Services advised permit holders in lots 4, 7, and NSG displaced by the gas leak should park in lot 50.
UPD reported no disruption in supplying power to the campus during the search for the leak and none are planned during the repair process.
