Escaped Inmates Released from Hospital

HOUSTON (AP) _ Three Texas inmates shot during an escape attempt are out of the hospital and back inside the high-security prison serving their life sentences.

Prison officials say they were shot Friday night after taking off during a church service at the Livingston prison. Two other inmates who are serving life terms were treated for cuts from the prison fence razor wire. All five face felony attempted escape charges.

The men are considered escape risks and must spend 23 hours a day in single cells. Jason Clark of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice says they must wear restraints everywhere they go, including showers.

Authorities still do not know whether the men orchestrated the getaway or if it was impromptu.
