ENNIS, Texas (AP) — Officials say a man was fatally shot by police after ramming his vehicle into two squad cars and driving at officers trying to arrest him following a traffic stop.
Police in Ennis, located south of Dallas, say 36-year-old Moses Ruben of Dallas was fatally shot Monday night. Police said an officer who stopped Ruben for speeding discovered he had an invalid driver’s license and active arrest warrants. Ruben then refused to exit his vehicle when told he was under arrest.
Police say after backup officers arrived, Ruben rammed his vehicle into two squad cars, narrowly missing officers and then again tried to drive at officers. Two officers fired three shots, striking Ruben at least once.
The Texas Rangers are investigating. The officers involved are on administrative leave per departmental policy.
