DALLAS (AP) _ Eighteen students and two adults on a school field trip were injured when an elevator at a Dallas Area Rapid Transit station apparently malfunctioned.
KTVT reports that the group was from Thompson Elementary School in Quinlan.
DART spokesman Mark Ball says the students were on the down escalator at Mockingbird Station just after noon when it suddenly sped up. The occupants were thrust forward and fell to the bottom of the escalator.
Of the 20 who were hurt, seven students with minor injuries were sent to Children’s Medical Center, including one believed to have a broken leg. Two adults went to Parkland Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Others were treated at the scene.
Engineers were inspecting the elevator to determine what went wrong.
