There’s a new acronym in the Texas A&M university system.
September 1 was the official start of TDEM…the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
The legislature elevated what was a division of the department of public safety.
Director Nim Kidd has the dual title of the system’s vice chancellor of disaster and emergency services.
The system’s chief financial officer, Billy Hamilton, told the board of regents at its last meeting about spending the last three months integrating 329 employees at 39 locations around the state.
Kidd updated the regents on recovery efforts following hurricane Harvey and other legislative action.
The regents at their last meeting gave Kidd the authority to administer seven groups of FEMA grants, which range from $1.5 million to $5 billion dollars a year.
