Efferding Selected to All-Tournament Team

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M sophomore Jeremy Efferding was named to the SEC All-Tournament team the league office announced on Sunday afternoon. The Boca Raton, Florida, native went 2-0 in singles, knocking off two top-75 opponents on his way to helping the team to the semifinals.

“Jeremy has had a great year and he really stepped it up this weekend, especially against KU Singh from Georgia,” Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. “His mental toughness and will to win are two of his greatest assets. He has improved tremendously this season and is a major reason for our team’s success. Coach McKinley, Coach O’Shea and I are all extremely proud of him.”

In the Aggies first contest in the tournament, the 26th-ranked singles player in the ITA rankings downed Alabama’s 73rd-ranked Jarry Botha, 6-3, 6-4, to clinch the match and send the Maroon and White to the semifinals to face regular season, and eventual tournament champion Georgia. In his match with the second-ranked Bulldogs, the sophomore upset his second top-10 opponent on the season when he rallied back to defeat Singh after dropping the first set, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5, to knot the match up at two.

Efferding finished the regular season with a 16-8 record in singles which included eight wins over ITA ranked opponents. The sophomore will head into the NCAA tournament riding a three match winning streak.
