The two regional airlines that serve Easterwood Airport are now in bankruptcy court. But there’s reason for long range optimism.
Pinnacle Airlines, which provides United service to and from Houston, filed earlier this month. Airport manager John Happ expects a new carrier to take over when Pinnacle stops service by the end of June. Happ, who is in constant contact with United, says there are four or five possible replacements.
And AMR, the parent company of American Eagle, filed its bankruptcy. On Monday, AMR was scheduled to be in court asking a bankruptcy court to void the labor contracts of its three largest unions. The unions are scheduled to appear in court May 14th. AMR is also opposed to a proposed takeover by U.S. Airways.
And look for Easterwood to expand passenger airline service. Happ says two reasons are the improving economy and Texas A&M University joining the Southeastern Conference.
