LUFKIN, Texas (AP) _ An East Texas elected official has been charged with operating county equipment for his personal use on his daughter’s property.
Angelina County Commissioner Robert Lewis Loggins was indicted Wednesday on two misdemeanor counts of abuse official capacity.
The 54-year-old Loggins was arrested and freed on $1,500 bond. He declined comment following his release.
Loggins in July allegedly used county equipment to level land on his daughter’s property. Loggins at the time told KTRE-TV that he was purchasing dirt for the county from her and was leveling land so no equipment would be damaged entering the property.
The Lufkin Daily News reports one count involves a front-end wheel loader used to move a stuck tractor. The second count involves use of a motor grader to smooth out and/or repair a road.
