East Bryan Housing & Commercial Development Endorsed By P&Z And Former City Council

Just over a year after plans were unveiled, the Bryan city council gave initial approval to rezoning land for a large residential and commercial development.

Oakmont is located north of Boonville Road, between what will be an extension of University Drive and Copperfield.

While there were no comments from the public or the council on November 21, the planning and zoning commission (P&Z) heard concerns at their public hearing on October 20 from residents in Copperfield.

Keith Peters and Melissa Laudermilk did not want Canterbury Drive connecting to Oakmont.

P&Z member John Bush, who made the motion to recommend approval of the development, said he understood the concerns.

P&Z chairman Bobby Gutierrez joined Bush in praising Oakmont developers and city staff.

P&Z was told there would be a ten year build out of 750 single family homes, 250 multi-family homes, three parks, trails, and 100,000 square feet of commercial space.
