A drunk driver is accused of causing a weekend crash near Bryan that sent six people in the other car to the hospital.
40 year old Eduardo Orihuela of Bryan, who was not injured, told the investigating DPS trooper he drank five beers before driving.
Sergeant Jimmy Morgan says Orihuela became lost while driving Sunday during the midnight hour on FM 974 near Tabor.
Morgan says Orihuela pulled his 2008 Lexus car into a driveway, and while backing up his car was struck by a westbound 2001 Honda Civic.
Orihuela, who is out of jail after posting bond following his arrest for intoxication assault with serious bodily injury, is accused of blowing breath samples of .161, just over twice the legal limit, and .156.
Morgan says the the driver and five passengers in the Civic were taken to St. Joseph’s for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Receiving non-incapacitating injuries were the driver, 20 year old Ever Morales of Bryan and three of the four backseat passengers, 14 year old Joaquin Hernandez, 16 year old Jesus Rodriguez, and 21 year old Oscar Portillo. The front seat passenger, 21 year old Kasie Smith and the fourth backseat passenger, 20 year old Joseph Arellano, sustained incapacitating injuries.
