Dramatic finishes lead to tie at top in US Open

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) _ Golfers so far have managed to tame Pebble Beach during the first round of the U.S. Open. Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele and Louis Oosthuizen shared the clubhouse lead after firing 5-under 66s.

For a course notorious for its strong winds, Pebble Beach was as gentle as could be on Thursday. Fowler carded six birdies and Schauffele made a 12-foot putt for eagle on the 18th hole to catch Fowler. Oosthuizen dropped one in from the bunker on his final hole a few minutes later to join them at 5-under 66. Aaron Wise was on the course at minus-5 as he attempts to finish with a share of the lead.

Scott Piercy is in the clubhouse at 4 under, while two-time defending champion Brooks Koepka was 4 under through 12. Koepka birdied four of his first six holes.

Rory McIlroy is in the mix following a 68, four days after winning the Canadian Open. Tiger Woods was at minus-1 through 10 holes, and Jordan Spieth was 2 over with eight holes to play.
