Dr. Len Berry to Receive Mays Business School Lifetime Achievement Award

This year’s recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Texas A&M Mays Business School is Dr. Leonard Berry.

The public is invited to a reception Friday morning (4/24) from 8:30 until 10:30 in the Wehner Building’s Cocanougher Center. That will be followed by a speech from 10:30 a.m. until noon in Wehner 114, titled “Learning to Write, Writing to Learn, and other Lessons from an Academic Life”.

The award is designed to recognize sustained and outstanding scholarly contributions by Mays faculty who are considered pioneers in their field.

Dr. Berry, who has been at Texas A&M since January 1982, is the University Distinguished Professor of Marketing, a Regents Professor, the M.B. Zale Chair in Retailing and Marketing Leadership and the Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence.

A snapshot from the Mays Business School states Dr. Berry is the author of 13 books and more than 185 articles and book chapters, he is most renowned for pioneering the field of services marketing and for his contributions to the body of literature on service quality. He also pioneered scholarly inquiry into the now-foundational concept of relationship marketing.

Dr. Berry has focused on healthcare services following his research studies at Mayo Clinic. His current research concerns improving the service experience for cancer patients and their families.

Dr. Berry is the recipient of numerous industry awards. He has twice won the University’s Distinguished Achievement Award in Research. In 2014, he received the Outstanding Doctoral Alumni Award from the Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, his alma mater.

His colleagues praise him as “a visionary scholar whose research…continues to positively impact scholarly research, business education and practice, as well as the lives of many.”
