AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Jack Colley, who led the Texas Department of Public Safety’s division of emergency management, has died.
A DPS statement Monday announced Colley died Sunday. He was 62.
DPS says Colley had been in the hospital after suffering a heart attack earlier this month.
Further details and funeral arrangements were not immediately released.
Colley, during his more than a dozen years with DPS, helped lead emergency response efforts to the 2003 shuttle Columbia disaster, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 and Hurricane Ike in 2008.
Colley served in the Army from 1970 to 1997, retiring as a colonel before joining DPS.
