Doxakis Named NCWBA Pitcher of the Month

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M junior left-hander John Doxakis was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Pitcher of the Month for February, the organization announced Thursday.

The Aggie southpaw has been stellar through three starts, posting a 3-0 record with a 0.43 ERA, 0.48 WHIP and .113 opponent batting average. He ranks fourth in the nation with 32 strikeouts and 13th with a 16.00 K-to-BB ratio.

Doxakis equaled a career-high with 12 strikeouts in games against Fordham and No. 18 Baylor. In the win against Baylor, he held the Bears to one run on four hits and no walks in 8.0 innings. Doxakis was named SEC Pitcher of the Week for his season-opening effort against Fordham when he held the Rams to one hit and no walks over 7.0 shutout innings.

The Houston, Texas, native became the second Aggie to earn Player of the Month recognition from the NCBWA, which began bestowing the honor in 2016. Hunter Melton garnered the NCBWA Player of the Week for April 2016.
