DMN Lauds Fort Hood “Heroes”

DALLAS (AP) _ The Dallas Morning News has named “the heroes” of Fort Hood its Texan of the Year.

The newspaper says the award includes soldiers on the base, their families and surrounding communities.

It says men, women and children on and off the base have embraced the call to duty and service without looking for personal glory or attention.

The recognition comes less than two months after a shooting spree at one of the nation’s largest military posts left 13 dead and 29 wounded. An Army psychiatrist has been charged in the deaths.

But the newspaper says the list of heroes “goes far beyond the casualties and responders involved in the Nov. 5 shooting rampage.”

Fort Hood spokesman Christopher Haug says everyone at the post appreciates the recognition.
