Four and a half years after College Station voters said yes to building a nature center at Lick Creek Park, a design has been approved.

The city council at this week’s meeting approved an architect’s contract by a 4-3 vote.

Councilwoman Blanche Brick participated with the community advisory committee that recommended the design which includes heating and air conditioning. Also voting yes were Karl Mooney, John Nichols, and Julie Schultz.

Mayor Nancy Berry voted no out of concerns about the operations and maintenance cost of not only climate control but adding one full time employee and seasonal part-time employees. Also voting no were James Benham and Jess Fields.

The citizens committee and city staff spent two years to get to the action taken by the council last/Thursday night.
