Dispute Resolution Center Needs Volunteers

The Dispute Resolution Center is a non-profit organization, which facilitates peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Tori Ellis, Executive Director, said anyone can use their low-cost to no-cost mediation services.

“Most of our customers are court ordered here through the court system for either civil cases or family cases such as divorce or child custody,” said Ellis.

Ellis said they are currently in need of volunteers to train as mediators, but you must be certified in the state of Texas. The next basic training is scheduled to begin June 1st.

“For anybody that is interested in volunteering, we are giving that away as a free training,” said Ellis.

According to the DRC, Basic Mediation (40-hour) and Advanced Family Mediation (24-hour) trainings are offered by the DRC as a service to the community. Many cases are come by court order from our district or county courts. Others are referred by attorneys who suggest that their clients try mediation first. People also choose to mediate problems at the DRC without attorneys. All sorts of civil and family cases are welcome.
