DeSoto Hangs on to Superintendent, For Now

DALLAS (AP) _ Nothing changed in the status of a new Dallas-area school superintendent caught in the fallout of a test-cheating scandal at her previous district.

DeSoto school district spokeswoman Beth Trimble says Superintendent Kathy Augustine remains on paid administrative leave after the district board, in a surprise development, adjourned late Monday without settling the future of the former deputy Atlanta school superintendent.

The district in the suburb south of Dallas hired Augustine in April for $188,000 a year. However, the board placed her on paid leave earlier this month while it re-examined her Atlanta tenure. She has denied having knowledge of test cheating in Atlanta.

The DeSoto board’s agenda for Monday evening included an item addressing her employment, including a “possible voluntary exit agreement.” Trimble said it was tabled until Aug. 8.
