DeRuyter close to deal at Fresno State

Tim DeRuyter

One reason that A&M Interim head coach Tim DeRuyter has not yet been offered the head coaching job at Fresno State is because it would be against the law for that to happen before today. California law says that such a job must remain open for 10 days after being posted and that was Dec. 4th, the day former coach Pat Hill was fired.

But all indications are that DeRuyter will be formally offered the job today and there could even be a press conference today.

Based on some twitter posting, it sounds like a done deal. One current player sent out “New era at Fresno state .. Tim DeRuyter gonna be the new head coach .. let’s go..”

And former Bulldog quarterback David Carr tweeted how he was excited about the type of defense DeRuyter would bring to the team.

DeRuyter was in Fresno yesterday for a second interview and reportedly to work out the financial details of his contract.

What is not clear yet, but should be today, is whether Fresno would want him to report for work immediately or if he could return to A&M to continuing coaching the Aggies for the Meineke Car Care Bowl against Northwestern on Dec. 31st.
