Demoted Texas A&M Professor Reports To Jail To Serve Time For Assaulting Wife

Nearly three years after a Texas A&M professor was arrested for choking his wife, he has reported to the Brazos County jail.

40 year old Yong Chen of College Station was convicted by a Brazos County district court jury five weeks ago of class “A” misdemeanor assault.

Dr. Chen was allowed to finish teaching the spring semester and go to China to visit his ailing parents before starting a sentence of 30 consecutive days.

Chen agreed to a sentence that includes a finding of committing family violence and requiring him to complete a batterer’s intervention program.

Chen, who is listed on the A&M website as an associate professor, lost an endowed professor’s position after the conviction.
