DeLoach Becomes Fifth Three-Time Freshman of the Week in SEC History

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M centerfielder Zach DeLoach picked up Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors for the third time, the SEC announced Monday afternoon.

DeLoach became just the fifth player in league history to earn Freshman of the Week distinction three times in a season. He joins Alabama’s Tommy Hunter (2006), Florida’s Preston Tucker (2009), LSU’s Alex Lange (2015) and South Carolina’s Braden Webb (2016).

In February, DeLoach became the first player to start a career with back-to-back SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

The Lewisville, Texas, native logged hits in all four games, including two multiple hit games and helped the Aggies to a series win at Mississippi State. For the week, DeLoach hit .471 (8-for-17) with three runs, one double, two RBI and one stolen base and he added one outfield assist.

DeLoach batted 6-for-13 with two runs, one double, one stolen base and two RBI in Texas A&M’s series win against the Bulldogs. He capped the weekend by going 4-for-5 with one run, one stolen base and one RBI. He added a 2-for-4 performance in the Aggies’ midweek win against Abilene Christian.

For the season, DeLoach his hitting .270 with 33 runs, nine doubles, five triples, two home runs, 20 RBI and two stolen bases. His five triples rank 15th in the nation.

DeLoach is Texas A&M’s second player to earn multiple SEC Freshman of the Week honors, joining Braden Shewmake who earned the award twice in 2017.

Texas A&M returns to action Tuesday when the Aggies host the Prairie View A&M Panthers in a 6:32 p.m. contest on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
