Defense Attorneys Blame Stepfather in Baby Grace Death

GALVESTON, Texas (AP) _ Defense attorneys for 2-year-old Riley Ann Sawyer’s mother will continue arguing today before jurors that a discipline session to teach the child good behaviors spun out of control.

Attorneys for Kimberly Dawn Trenor are expected to argue their client never intended for her daughter to die as a result.

Trenor is on trial for capital murder in death of Riley whose decomposed remains were dubbed “Baby Grace” until she was identified.

Galveston County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Elias Cazares testified Wednesday that a list of nine good behaviors was written in a notebook found by authorities in the couple’s home after they were arrested.

Both Trenor and Riley’s stepfather, Royce Clyde Zeigler II, were charged with capital murder for the child’s death.

Prosecutors are arguing both Trenor and Zeigler are equally responsible for Riley’s death on July 25, 2007. Zeigler will be tried later.
