Decision Expected Soon in Ft. Hood Shooter Case

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ An Army commander has met with the Fort Hood shooting suspect’s defense attorneys and is considering the next step in the case stemming from the deadly 2009 rampage.

The brigade commander met Wednesday with attorneys representing Maj. Nidal Hasan, the Army psychiatrist charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder.

Col. Morgan Lamb will make a recommendation soon on whether Hasan should stand trial and face the death penalty.

Neither Fort Hood officials nor defense attorneys would reveal specifics of what they discussed.

But defense attorney John Galligan says he asked Lamb to consider all options, saying a death penalty case is more expensive and time-consuming.

After Lamb’s recommendation, the commanding general will make the final decision about how the case proceeds.
