Death of Montague County Judge Self-Inflicted

BOWIE, Texas (AP) _ The Montague County judge was found dead early Friday, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities found Ted Winn dead in his garage outside Bowie. It appeared that he shot himself, 97th District Attorney Jack McGaughey told The Associated Press.

The sheriff’s office responded after just after 6 a.m. after receiving a call from Winn’s wife, who said an ambulance was needed, Sheriff Paul Cunningham said. Cunningham declined to provide additional details, saying the case was being investigated by the Texas Rangers.

Winn, a Republican, was serving his first term as the county’s top administrator.

Bowie is about 70 miles north of Fort Worth.
