Death of Brazos County Jail Inmate Dennis Brown Ruled A Suicide

A Madisonville man accused of capital murder in the deaths of a Bryan woman and her father last year took his own life while being held in the Brazos County jail.

Sheriff Chris Kirk says autopsy results of Dennis Wayne Brown III concluded he overdosed on a medication he was prescribed to take for a health condition but was secretly hoarding.

Kirk says the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office determined Brown died of intentionally taking too much amitriptyline.

On May 18, Brown was found unresponsive on his bunk in his cell.

The sheriff said medical personnel immediately initiated CPR on Brown and summoned Bryan EMS who continued CPR.

Kirk previously stated investigations by his department and Texas Rangers will be forwarded to the Texas Attorney General’s office and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

Brown was awaiting trial on charges he set a Bryan home on fire in April 2014, killing Noel Devin and her father, Thomas “Mac” Devin.
