AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Dallas police say 13 officers have been placed on leave after the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man
following a robbery at a pizzeria.
Police said in a statement Monday that the Sunday night shooting started with police chasing a vehicle whose occupants were suspected of robbing a pizzeria.
They say the chase moved from suburban Mesquite into Dallas and ended with police confronting the 19-year-old as he stood on a porch of a private home holding a gun to his head while he spoke to his mother on a cell phone.
Police say the teen moved the gun under his chin and then began to bring it back around to the side of his head. Police say officers then became worried about their safety and shot the teen multiple times.
The shooting is still being investigated.
