For those in the hospitality industry, work-life often moves at a more than hectic pace with little thanks
along the way. However, on Wednesday afternoon the Bryan College Station Convention & Visitors
Bureau (BCSCVB) took a moment to slow down and thank a few individuals and organizations that make
tourism a special part of the community.

“For many front line workers or folks that work so hard to give a great experience to visitors, many times
their efforts to make the small details perfect go unnoticed or un-thanked,” said BCSCVB President/CEO
Shannon Overby. “So we use this luncheon to take a second to slow down, look back and appreciate
what everyone has done.”

More than 100 people were in attendance at the annual luncheon, which was held at the Hilton Hotel in
College Station. Awards were handed out in seven different categories, including the “Exceptional
Service Associate” award given to a person who has done something exceptional for customers or visitors
to the area, and the “Hometown Hero” award given to a community member who has gone above and
beyond in the hospitality area.

“Every nomination we received this year could be honored with an award,” said Sydney Murrell, who
works in sales and servicing for the BCSCVB and organized this year’s luncheon. “We’re just amazed at
what people do in our community to make travel and tourism here one of the best experiences in the state.
Our awards selection panel definitely had hard work cut out for them this year!”

The luncheon is the last event in the month of May, which the BCSCVB celebrates as “Tourism and
Travel Month.” The first week of May is national recognized by CVB’s across the country as National
Travel and Tourism week, highlighting the impacts that tourism has on a community. All month long the
