CSISD Boundary Change Public Forums Are Underway

The College Station school district’s (CSISD) series of public forums on proposed boundary changes for 5th through 12th grade students began with 20 speakers.

For 70 minutes, most of the speakers asked for one or two things. Nine wanted grandfathering for freshman students who want to stay at their current high school. Six who live in the Nantucket area south of the city limits did not want their children attending Oakwood Intermediate School near Texas A&M at the northern end of the district.

The speakers included one family, including an eighth grade girl and fourth grade boy whose recommendations included not splitting the student bodies of the current intermediate and middle schools.

Superintendent Clark Ealy began the first forum with an apology for what he said was his mistake in the proposed boundaries affecting the Nantucket neighborhood.

A majority of the College Station school board and about half of the 37 member committee that made the recommendations attended the first forum.

The second opportunity to speak was Tuesday. The final forum is Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the school board meeting room.
