The president of the College Station school board the last six years is not seeking re-election.
Valerie Jochen, who will be completing her third term, says she is going out on top and it’s time for new leadership.
Dr. Jochen says it’s important for her successor to listen and put themselves out of their comfort zone.
Since joining the board in May of 2008, Jochen says the number of CSISD students has grown from 8,000 to more than 13,000.
Jochen is exploring other community service opportunities when she leaves the CSISD board.

The first to file for Jochen’s seat is Geralyn Nolan. She was one of 16 parents who served last year on the district’s Path to 25-K Committee that preceded the work of a boundary adjustment committee. Nolan has three children.
