Six members of the College Station Fire Department were recognized at The 100 Club of Houston’s 58th annual Heroes Awards Banquet.
The club honored more than three dozen law enforcement officers and firefighters from an 18-county region who went above and beyond the call of duty. Among them:
- Firefighter/Paramedic Michael Armstrong
- Firefighter/Paramedic David Copeland
- Firefighter/Paramedic Derek Gallion
- Firefighter/Paramedic Stanley Stephenson
- Driver Engineer John Paul Moore
- Lieutenant Steven Hisaw
According to The 100 Club:
These six firefighters were called to the scene of a head-on accident between a cement truck and a heavy-duty dump truck whose driver was trapped inside. Upon arrival, they began efforts to transport the injured cement truck driver to an area hospital and also began efforts to extricate the injured driver from the dump truck. To complicate their efforts, the load of wet concrete was dumped around the vehicle and was becoming deeper by the minute. Ruptured fuel tanks caused a large diesel fuel leak, creating another safety concern for the rescuers. As the firefighters continued their rescue efforts, the concrete pool grew to a depth of three feet. The seriously injured victim was successfully removed from the vehicle and rushed to a nearby hospital. This team effort of six brave firefighters is responsible for saving the man’s life.
