CS Water Well Request Remains Unanswered

College Station officials are still waiting for a decision on the future availability of two water wells.

A request to renew operating permits, originally made in January, was not addressed at Thursday’s meeting of the Brazos Valley Groundwater Conservation District, which was held in College Station.

Among those speaking was the attorney for the local groundwater rights association.  Doug Caroom of Austin wants all property owners to be paid for their water.

College Station Water Services Director Dave Coleman says that’s happening as the city grows and needs additional capacity.  Coleman says over the last three years, the city has spent $5 million dollars to purchase over 1,200 acres of land to obtain water rights. And Coleman says the conservation board made the decision seven years ago to not pay landowners for water applied to historic usage.

The conservation district board also heard from representatives of Texas A&M University and the Research Valley Partnership.
