The College Station City Council has given the green light to start acquiring land that sometime in the future will expand Rock Prairie Road from Highway 6 to William D. Fitch Parkway.
There’s no timetable for future construction. And it won’t necessarily be a four-lane the entire length.
Between Bird Pond and Bradley it would be two-lane. councilman John Crompton asked why. Planning and Zoning Director Bob Cowell said it was about traffic flow to and from Highway 6.
Capital Projects Manager Chuck Gilman told the council they’ve been visiting with affected landowners since the project was originally created in 2003.
While approving staff recommendations the council also called for bringing back an amendment that will allow the purchase of enough right of way to make Rock Prairie four-lane between Bird Pond and Bradley.
